Celebrating Christmas across our hospitals The charity team has been out and about across all our hospitals, spreading Christmas cheer, thanks to your kind support. Beautiful, real Christmas trees grace the entrances to each of our NHS Trust’s hospitals. It’s always fantastic to see the immediate impact the trees have as we decorate them, with the wonderful help of hospital volunteers and estates teams. It’s a sign that Christmas is here and the patients, staff and visitors in our hospitals haven’t been forgotten. A series of lovely events follow, including the Kamran’s Ward Christmas party for children with cancer, Santa flying in with RAF Benson to distribute toys, visits from Banbury’s Mayor to Horton Children’s Ward, and Oxford United and Play2Give to the Oxford Children’s Hospital, a selection of carols, concerts and choirs in our hospitals and local communities, as well as funding from the charity to help staff enjoy Christmas celebrations together. Throughout it all, the charity team is integral to these special moments, fueled by your kind support. A particular highlight is the distribution of 2,000 Christmas gifts which aim to reach every corner of our hospitals so that no patient, young or old, feels forgotten this Christmas. This mammoth task is led by the charity, who design the beautiful gift packs which are stuffed with treats: including cozy Christmas socks, tasty biscuits, interesting activities and chocolate treats. A children’s gift box is also provided for young patients and their siblings, along with many other gifts to make sure the spirit of Christmas is sparkling for little ones. There is even a Ward Decoration competition, with prizes provided by the charity, to encourage the amazing staff across the hospitals to make as many areas as possible look festive. Another highlight of Christmas has been seeing the positive reaction to our special appeal which aims to help children in hospital feel like superheroes. It stars six-year-old Sylvie who was treated in the Children’s Hospital earlier this year. Of course the Oxford Hospitals Charity team is at work throughout the year, funding some of the most sophisticated medical equipment in our hospitals. Do watch our four minute video which shows some of the highlights of our funding this year – including specialist ventilators for babies and children in Paediatric Care, innovative research into Parkinsons disease and bringing music and art into our hospitals. Whether it’s bringing Christmas cheer into our hospitals or funding transformative medical equipment – everything we are able to do is thanks to the kindness and generosity of our donors, fundraisers and those who choose to leave a gift in their Will to Oxford Hospitals Charity. We are so grateful to each and every one of you who has supported us this year and share our Christmas wishes with you and your loved ones.
