Kamran’s Ward Summer Activity Day

This July members of the charity team were delighted to join ward staff, families and children at the Kamran’s Ward Activity Day in the Oxford Children’s Hospital. This is a special event that brings together to children and families affected by cancer.

The day was packed with fun activities, including an interactive trail that started at our Charity Hub with a variety of creative and engaging activities for families to enjoy along the whole route. 

A wonderful mix of charities and volunteers joined us, each bringing their own fun: from bookmark making and t-shirt designing, therapy dogs to skittle games. And for older children and teens there was even a mini putting green and virtual reality experience to enjoy.

Adding to the fun was our cuddly mascot, Harry Bear, who was there to spread joy with plenty of cuddles and high-fives!Clinical Nurse Specialist, Lea Glade, from the Aftercare and Late Effects Service and Amy Mitchell, a Consultant in Paediatric Oncology, both played a pivotal role in organising the event.

Lea said: “It was a joy to see patients past and present, their siblings and loved ones enjoy themselves and meeting all of the different charities. It was a great way for them to learn more about what is available to them, and to be able to see the hospital in a different light and have fun. We also had many hospital staff, friends and family helping out on the day, and we would like to say a big thank you to them.”

Ella Cooper, Programme Officer at Oxford Hospitals Charity, added: "We always love being part of Kamran’s Day and it’s an event that Oxford Hospitals Charity is really proud to play an important role in. It’s lovely to see the children enjoying a day created just for them. Every child received a goody bag from the charity, and watching their faces light up when they met Harry Bear was so special.”

A huge thank you to all the charities who came out to support the day, and to Rapid Relief for treating everyone to a free drink and doughnut at the end of the trail — a perfect treat to round off a fantastic day!
