Our Charity Our Latest News 4-Year-Old Lottie’s Big Steps for Charity Every day this July Lottie is walking around a large field near her house on her Big Sponsored Walk. Some days she walks backwards or even dances her way around the route. She’s already raised an impressive £370 and braved, wind, rain, and occasional glimpses of sunshine on her walking challenge. And last week she even got a surprise when Harry Bear, the charity mascot, turned up to walk with her. Lottie’s fundraising journey began when was fascinated watching local firefighters holding a charity car wash. Her curiosity led to a chat with her mum about raising money to help people and she decided she wanted to "do charity" too! When asked who she wanted to help, she immediately replied "poorly children." Lottie and her mum discussed various fundraising ideas. Washing cars wasn’t an option for a four-year-old, and selling her artwork wasn't quite feasible yet, so they settled on a sponsored walk. Lottie has asthma and has had a number of stays in the Oxford Children’s Hospital due to difficulties with breathing. The Play Specialists at the hospital made a big impact during her time there; providing toys and crafting materials that helped put a smile on her face. To give back, Lottie is donating the money that she raises from her sponsored walk to support the work of the Play Specialist – helping purchase more toys and crafting materials to improve the hospital experience for other young patients. Lottie’s mum, Rachel, expressed her pride: "If anyone can spare even £1, it would mean so much to not only help a worthy charity but also encourage a very keen little girl to keep helping others. “I am so proud of Lottie for coming up with this idea by herself. The world definitely needs more Lotties!" Claire Hughes from Oxford Hospitals Charity also shared her admiration: "What a special little girl Lottie is. At such a young age, she wants to give something back, and that is wonderful. So, join us in cheering on Lottie as she walks each day in July, setting a beautiful example of kindness and compassion.
