Phil's hair-raising fundraising How’s this for a transformation! Phil Tynan from Faringdon decided to stop shaving or cutting his hair for a whole year, inspired by his son. Phil told us: “My 19-year-old, Adam, suffered a seizure in his sleep in July 2023. He had neurological tests and follow-up appointments with a specialist epilepsy nurse and was diagnosed with complex epilepsy. "Adam never stops amazing us. I’m so proud of him and his positive attitude, so I wanted to do something fun and different for the Neuro department at the John Radcliffe - the team there are amazing. “I set myself the challenge of not shaving or cutting my hair for a whole year. It grew so quickly and I went from clean-cut - to looking like Uncle Albert off Only Fools and Horses in a matter of months. “After a hair-raising year, it was a relief to have it all taken off just before Christmas – I think I was looking far too much like Santa by then!” The big shave took place at The Crown Hotel, in Faringdon where Phil regularly DJs as part of ‘Los Amigos’. “I can’t get over how much support I’ve had and am absolutely thrilled to have raised over £3,500 - more than double what I had hoped I could do! "This was one of my proudest moments - supporting my son, raising funds for Oxford Hospitals Charity and raising awareness of epilepsy." Lorna Eaton from Oxford Hospitals Charity said: “We think Phil’s fundraising was a cut above! He braved the shave in style and we’re so grateful for this fantastic support.” If Phil has inspired you, why not take a look at our fundraising ideas page and raise funds for your local hospitals.
