We're delighted to say that our fabulous Thames Path 100 challenger, Rachel McMinnis, made it to the finish line in just over 29 hours on Sunday!
Yes, you read that right - that's 100 miles in just over a day!!
Speaking about the challenge, Rachel, a physiotherapist at the Children's Hospital, said, "It was tough out on the trails, focusing on one step at a time, one checkpoint at a time, and what we needed in each moment to keep moving forward toward our goal.
"It was an amazing race following the beautifully scenic Thames path as it meandered its way between London and Oxford. The stunning views of the day and the busier towpaths full of walkers and Saturday runners soon became peaceful trails with an incredible calm as we ran through the night, enjoying the moon and stars above and soaking it all up.
Despite the miles feeling long, time ticked by quickly and no sooner had the sun set, the noise of the birds had restarted, and dawn had arrived - a beautiful moment. Still able to appreciate the beauty of it, we continued on, and somehow (and at times I don’t know how!) continued on to the finish!"
Rachel was amazed by the support and encouragement from other runners and the many spectators /crews/aid station volunteers along the way. Her fellow runners regularly checked in on each other as they passed to help keep each other safe and provide extra encouragement.
"Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement along the way, and to my colleague Stuart for his pacing support for those last 40 miles, couldn’t have done it without you! Thanks also to everyone for their generosity with all the donations, which, through supporting paediatric therapy services, can support our young patients and their families on their rehab journeys.
"It’s been a privilege to run for the charity and to share that event with other members of our therapy team, including Christina and Stuart."
Well done for completing the challenge - what an amazing achievement, we're all in awe of your strength and stamina to keep going for 100 miles.
