A team of twenty-five runners are taking part in the London Marathon this weekend,  supporting Oxford Hospitals Charity.

The runners are on track to raise over £50,000 for causes across Oxfordshire’s hospitals at the world-famous event.

One of those running is Laura Williamson, a nurse at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

She says: “I have had the privilege to work as a nurse in the Emergency Department at the JR for the past 12 years. In this time, I have seen myself the very valuable, important work the Oxford Hospitals Charity does for the trust and community, so it’s fantastic to be running my first ever marathon for them.”

Hilary Green is tackling her third marathon, to mark her 70th birthday. Mark Rogers is running for the Brodey Centre at the Horton, to remember his friend Andy Stott, and thank the team for his care. Charlotte Stephenson is running to thank the team at the Churchill Hospital for their fantastic care of her dad, who has cancer and Adam Bradley wants to say thank you to the staff at the John Radcliffe for caring for his family, including his daughter Gracie and sister Rachel.

Silver Star, which is part of the hospital charity, has a group of friends running in memory of their colleague, Dr May McCrea, a Witney GP.

Claire Hughes from Oxford Hospitals Charity said: “We are so incredibly excited for all our runners and very proud of them too. It takes an incredible amount of time and dedication to train for a marathon and many of our team are running for very emotional reasons. The money they raise will make such a difference in our hospitals.”

The ballot for the 2026 London marathon is now open, and those wishing for a place are encouraged to sign up quickly. Click here to sign up
