Wall of Thanks celebrates hospital supporters Supporters, families and friends gathered in celebration this February, as Oxford Hospitals Charity officially unveiled its new Wall of Thanks. The display is a tribute to the generosity, dedication and compassion of those who have supported the charity and our local Oxfordshire hospitals over the past two years. The special event brought together many of the individuals and teams who are now proudly featured on the wall. Supporters took time to find their names, take photographs and share the personal stories behind their fundraising and donations. This included marathon runners, Channel swimmers, skydivers, golfers, community groups, businesses and schools. Each person, family or team featured was presented with a certificate in recognition of their incredible contribution. Pictured above L to R: Don and Sue representing Hadden Hill Golf Club, which raised funds for bowel cancer, Team Harvey - Tara and Jack who are raising funds to help teenagers of Kamran's Ward, in memory of Tara's son Harvey, and medical student Anthony, who represented the Tingewick Society, a group University of Oxford medical students who support our charity every year. Carefully designed over the past year with the help of the team at Oxford Medical Illustration, the Wall of Thanks recognises some of the donors and fundraisers who make such a difference across Oxfordshire’s hospitals, including the John Radcliffe Hospital, the Oxford Children's Hospital, the Churchill Hospital, the Horton General Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. This first Wall of Thanks features our top fundraisers from the community over the past two years. Going forward the wall will be updated every year to recognise our latest special donors. Pictured above L to R: Lee joined us on behalf of the Oxfordshire Golf Club who raised an incredible £25,000 for the Churchill Hospital, Team Gethin, Nicola Keymer have now raised over £60,000 in memory of their Gethin and the Oxford Orcas - a group of hospital staff and friends who swam the Channel, raising over £40,000 for Paediatric Critical Care. Funds raised by supporters have helped provide life-saving equipment, vital staff roles and groundbreaking medical research, as well as enhancements to the hospital environment - like art and music on wards, bringing extra comfort to patients and families during challenging times. Douglas Graham, CEO of Oxford Hospitals Charity, said the day was a reminder of the amazing supporters behind the charity’s work. “It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces gathered together for such a special occasion. The wall showcases the generosity and dedication of our amazing supporters and the love they have for our wonderful hospitals and the staff who work in them, right here in Oxfordshire. “Every name on the wall represents a unique story — stories of bravery, love, endurance and compassion. Among those attending were skydivers, marathon runners, swimmers, golfers, community groups and local businesses. Some had fundraised in memory of loved ones, others as a way of saying thank you for the care they or their families had received. All of them are passionate about making our local hospitals even better places for patients and staff.” Pictured above L to R: Representatives of the Doris Field Charitable Trust, long-term supporters of our hospitals, Siobhan and Paul Masters, who fundraising has helped bereavement support in maternity, and Hollie Benson and family who do so much for our SIlver Star Maternity Fund. More names will be added to the wall over the next month, and it will be updated each year to recognise supporters who have made an impact over the previous 12 months. There are also plans underway to roll out a Wall of Thanks at the Horton General Hospital to ensure supporters across all sites are celebrated.
